Only nine days until we light the first Chanukah candle. The new Chanukah videos have started to arrive, and from now until the end of the holiday, we'll bring you the ones that we think are the funniest, cleverest, and most entertaining.
It's not going to be all Hanukkah, all the time at Jewish Humor Central because we have lots of other funny and interesting video clips to share with you in the next few weeks.
Whether you spell it Chanukah, Hanukkah, or whatever, let's get started with a delightful video from the residents of Jewish Care Victoria in Melbourne, Australia. This video is one of a series called A Bissel...
It covers predictable differences of opinion on how to spell the name of the holiday, the candle lighting sequence, what should go into the sufganiyot (doughnuts) and the right way to make latkes.
Enjoy!

This seems to be poking fun at elderly people. I am opposed to anything that even hints at disrespect for our elders.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone agree with this assessment? It was produced with respect by the home in Australia where they live and are cared for. The video ends with thanks to them for sharing their good humor and wisdom.
DeleteI also do not want to see anything disrespectful of our elders, but I saw no disrespect here. Many people don't know how to spell Chanukah (or Hannukah). Many of us also do not know which way to light the candles, so I didn't see this as making fun of older people. I thought the video was sweet.
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteI would just like to let everyone know that I was involved in the production of this video and it was made with full consent by our residents. They all loved being part of it and enjoy the end result.Their family and friends have also told us how much they love seeing their relatives in these videos.
No one is made to look silly or be disrespected. This is not what we do at Jewish Care. These questions are common questions you could ask any age group and get the same type of responses. It shows that everyone has a different opinion and a different thoughts.
Regards
Ayal
